Sabres Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

News - Mon, 2010-04-26 09:25

It was hardly a ringing endorsement for a guy previously described as an "elite center." In fact, Sabres general manager Darcy Regier's comment about Tim Connolly wasn't an endorsement at all.

Connolly, who led the Sabres in assists and was second in points, had just one assist in the playoffs. It led to a city-wide suggestion that Buffalo might trade the center, who has no goals in his last 23 playoff games. So Regier was asked if Connolly will be back in Blue and Gold next season.

"Oh, I don't know," Regier said. "Right now he's under contract, so I do expect him to be here."

It's a big change from February 2009, when Regier called Connolly an elite center as he signed him to a two-year, $9 million extension.
